About us


The i-Cocreation research team was estabilished in March 2016 as part of the Industry 4.0 Laboratory for Smart Manufacturing Systems, University of Auckland. The current research team is consist of five doctoral students from both the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Auckland. Our research interests mainly lie in aspects related with smart product development for mass personalization (SPDMP), such as: product co-development and innovation, data-driven user experience, ETO-based product configuration system, design for additive manufacturing, wireless body sensor network and VR/AR enalbed co-creation.

Vision

SPDMP, holds the promise of increased flexibility in product development, better user experience and improved product innovativeness, which enables one-of-a-kind (OKP) companies to take on the challenges of producing more individualized products with a short lead-time to market. The resultant higher quality products and services with better customer satisfaction and loyalty ultimately enhance companies’ competitiveness.

Mission

The research team is established to showcase some key technologies of SPDMP, as well as to demonstrate how they can be applied in nowadays one-of-a-kind production companies. The research team also facilitates interactions and collaborations between industry partners and researchers.

Objectives

  • Establish systematic framework to guiding OKP product development process.
  • Discover potential methods to enabling product co-creation process in a cost-effective manner.
  • Develop smart tools to achieving better user experience and shorten the product development time span.
  • Create a series of smart personalized wearable devices to improving individual user’s life experience.
